Fontclaireau is a French municipality with 436 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016 Poitou-Charentes ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Confolens and the canton of Boixe-et-Manslois (until 2015 Mansle ). The inhabitants are called Clarifontains .

Fontclaireau is located about 27 kilometers north-northeast of Angoulême on the Charente . Fontclaireau is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Fontenille in the north and northwest, Lichères in the northeast, Mouton in the east, Puyréaux in the south and Mansle in the south and west.
The National Route 10 runs through the municipality .
