Castle of Barbezières

Barbezières is a place and a community with 125 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in western France Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The community consists of several hamlets ( hameaux ) and individual farmsteads .

The place Barbezières is located in the north-west of the department in the old cultural landscape of the Angoumois , part of the Charente landscape , about 44 km (driving distance) north-west of the city of Angoulême or about 100 km south-west of Poitiers at an altitude of about 90 m above sea level. d. history

The place, first mentioned in 1274 under the name of Barbegiere , originally belonged - like the whole region of northern Angoumois - to the historical province of Poitou .
