Taizé-Aizie is a French commune in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine in the department of Charente . It is assigned to the canton of Charente-Nord and the Arrondissement Confolens .
geography
The place with 577 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is located in a bend of the Charente river that extends to the southeast, 5 km northeast of Ruffec and 58 kilometers south of Poitiers in the north of the Charente department. The municipality borders the Vienne department and the Deux-Sèvres department is only five kilometers away.
history
Aerial photographs have revealed that the village was near a Roman road . It was the ancient traffic route that led from Saintes to Charroux and crossed the road from Angoulême to Poitiers near Ruffec.
In 1731 a blast furnace and two metal refineries were built on the site that was given the field name Les Forges . In 1762 Charles-François de Broglie bought the business from the Duke of Saint-Simon , but the complex was secularized during the French Revolution . Also under the republic were u. a. Cast cannonballs . At the beginning of the 19th century the forge was sold several times, first in 1809 to Adélaïde-Charlotte de Broglio and around 1830 to the family company Marsat Fils , which had a second blast furnace and a third metal refinery built. In 1840 the company employed forty workers and produced 800 tons of cast iron a year. In 1860, Pierre-Émile Martin took over the foundry and supplied the arms factory Manufacture Nationale d'Armes de Châtellerault . In 1879 operations were stopped and in 1884 the blast furnaces were demolished. In 1889 the metal refinery was also given up. Today there is a flour mill in Les Forges .
The old mill Moulin de l'Isle , which processed grain, was converted into the then modern grain mill Minoterie Bernard at the end of the 19th century .

Attractions
- The Romanesque church of the parish of Saint-Pierre originally belonged to the priory of Sainte-Radegonde d'Aizie de Yissia , an offshoot of the Abbey of Notre-Dame de la Réau (in today's parish of Saint-Martin-l'Ars , Vienne department). The striking bronze bell is dated to 1666. The church, which was renovated in the 19th century, has been a listed building since 1943.
