The continuous decline in population since the late 19th century is mainly due to the loss of jobs as a result of the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the increasing mechanization of agriculture .
economy
The place and its surroundings were shaped by agriculture and forestry for centuries; most people lived on a self-sufficient basis . In the late Middle Ages and early modern times, viticulture was promoted, but - after the phylloxera crisis in the late 19th and early 20th centuries - was almost stopped. Since the 1960s tourism has played a not insignificant role in the economic life of the municipality in the form of renting out holiday homes ( gîtes ).
history
In Gallo-Roman times, a Roman estate ( villa rustica ) was built.
At the end of the 12th century, the place and its church belonged as a priory to the Benedictine abbey of Lesterps .
Attractions
- The former priory church and today's parish church of Notre-Dame was built in the 12th century; however, it was changed after the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) and in the Huguenot Wars (1562-1598) - u. a. she received a battlement under the eaves of the nave . The original parts mostly show quarry stone masonry made of granite , whereas the parts added later ( buttresses, etc.) are built from precisely hewn house stones . The multi-tiered late Romanesque entrance portal consists of several archivolt arches ; the inner arch is designed as a multi-pass arch . The nave has a pointed barrel vault, which was renewed in the 19th century, and a flat end of the choir with three windows arranged in a triumphal arch scheme. The church building has been recognized as a monument historique since 1965 ; it reopened in 2013 after a renovation.
- The church has a Romanesque font or holy water font.
