Xambes (1793 and 1801 even with the spellings Xambre and Xambe ) is a French municipality with 293 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement Confolens and the municipality of Cœur de Charente .
geography
Xambes is located in the Angoumois landscape , about 20 kilometers north of Angoulême and about 80 kilometers east of the Atlantic coast at an altitude between 67 and 131 m above sea level. The Charente flows three kilometers west of Xambes . The municipality covers 5.25 km².
Neighboring municipalities of Xambes are Villognon in the north, Vervant in the east, Saint-Amant-de-Boixe in the south, Vouharte in the southwest and Coulonges in the west.

Economy and Infrastructure
There are three farms in the municipality (cultivation of grain, pulses and oilseeds).
Xambes is connected to its neighboring communities by back roads. In the municipality of Villejoubert , eight kilometers away, there is a connection to the motorway-like national road 10 from Paris to Bordeaux . Charmes station, one and a half kilometers from Essegney, is on the Blainville-Damelevières-Lure railway line . The high-speed line for TGV trains LGV Sud Europe Atlantique runs on the western outskirts of Xambes, while the Paris – Bordeaux line runs through the northeast of the municipality .
