The Bonnieure is a river in France that runs in the Charente department , in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region . It rises in the municipality of Roumazières-Loubert , generally drains in a westerly direction and flows into the Charente after 47 kilometers, at Puygelier , in the municipality of Puyréaux , as a left tributary . In its lower reaches, it flows along the northern edge of the karst area of La Rochefoucauld , where grottos and underground caves repeatedly reduce the water flow. A left tributary, the Tardoire , is particularly affected by these phenomena , which with normal water flow no longer reaches the Bonnieure, but disappears entirely in the karst caves. The water masses flowing underground reappear in the vicinity of Angoulême and form the Touvre River there .
