It comprised 15 parishes in the Arrondissement Confolens ; its main town (French: chef-lieu ) was Ruffec . The nationwide changes in the composition of the cantons resulted in its dissolution in March 2015.
The canton of Ruffec was 215.27 km 2 and last had 8,662 inhabitants (as of 2012). On January 1, 2008, he moved from the Arrondissement Angoulême to the Arrondissement Confolens.
