Croignon is a commune with 642 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Gironde department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It is located in the catchment area of ​​the city of Bordeaux and belongs to the canton of Créon in the Arrondissement of Bordeaux .

geography

Croignon is located in southwest France in the Entre deux mers area between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers , 21 kilometers east of Bordeaux, the capital of the Aquitaine region, and 5.2 kilometers north of the canton capital Créon , at an average altitude of 65 meters above sea ​​level . The village is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Baron , Cursan and Camarsac . The municipality is hilly and has an area of ​​4.62 square kilometers. It is not only characterized by agriculture and viticulture , but also has wooded areas and valley meadows. The Gestas flows through the community. It is a tributary of the Dordogne and classified as an important protected area in the Natura 2000 network .

Saint Vincent Church

The Romanesque parish church of Saint-Vincent was built in the 12th century. The nave was enlarged in the 16th century . The porch, church tower and sacristy were built in 1857. The building was entered in the supplementary directory of the Monuments historiques in 1945 . A cemetery cross from the 16th century in the cemetery by the church is also entered in the list of monuments. A bell of the church was cast from bronze in 1636 . It was classified as a Monument historique in 1942. The rectory dates from the 16th century.

The manor Château Lartigue-Cèdres was built in the mid-19th century in the classicism style. The stables date from the 18th century. The mansion is privately owned and used as a winery . The winery produces red and rosé wines with Denomination of Origin Bordeaux , as well as Clairet , Sauvignon and Crémant Rosé .

In the hamlet of Le Grand Moulin , a private association is restoring an 11th century watermill .
