Tabanac is a French commune in the Gironde department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

It is located in the catchment area of ​​the city of Bordeaux and belongs to the canton of L'Entre-deux-Mers in the Arrondissement of Bordeaux . While Tabanac had 536 inhabitants in 1962, there are currently 1082 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). The vineyards of Tabanac belong to the Appellations Premières Côtes de Bordeaux and Cadillac .

Tabanac is located in southwest France in the Entre deux mers on the Garonne , 19 kilometers southeast of Bordeaux, the seat of the prefecture of the department and the sub-prefecture of the arrondissement , 8.1 kilometers southwest of Créon , the capital of the canton , and 5.6 Kilometers south-east of Paillet , the capital of the Vallon de l'Artolie municipal association, at an average altitude of 49 meters above sea ​​level . The Mairie stands at a height of 76 meters. Neighboring communities of Tabanac are Bauch in the west, Haux in the northeast, Le Tourne in the southeast and Beautirans in the southwest. The municipality has an area of ​​800 hectares.

The municipality is assigned to a climate zone of the type Cfb (according to Köppen and Geiger) : warm, moderate rainy climate (C), fully humid (f), warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C (b). There is a maritime climate with a moderate summer.

history

Traces of settlement from the Neolithic Age (5500 to 2200 BC) and from the Gallo-Roman period (52 BC to 486 AD) have been found in the municipality . A marble sarcophagus from the 6th century was discovered in the cemetery. Which proves that the cemetery must have existed back then.

From the 11th century Tabanac was the seat of a seigneurie . The municipality was divided into several fiefdoms in the Middle Ages and was under the Prévôté Entre-deux-Mers.

Notre-Dame church

The tower of Camail was built in the 17th century. Its local name is tour du Télégraphe ( telegraph tower ) because it was used for the telegraph service on the Bordeaux - Agen  - Toulouse  - Narbonne route after 1834 .

The medieval parish church of Notre-Dame was replaced by a neo-Gothic building in 1874 . The rectory dates from the 18th century.

Renon Castle was built in the 19th century on the foundations of a seigneurial castle from the 17th century. It is privately owned. The castle's farmhouse has been preserved. The agricultural buildings date from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The Saint Aignan Manor was built in the 17th century. It is a mansion in Lieu-dit Armaing (actually d'Armaing) and is privately owned.

Sentout Castle from the 17th century is privately owned and used for tourism .
