Carbon-Blanc is a French town in the Gironde department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality belongs to La Presqu'île in the Arrondissement of Bordeaux . It is located in the catchment area of the city of Bordeaux . While Carbon-Blanc had 1628 inhabitants in 1962, it currently has 8091 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
The name Carbon-Blanc goes back to the medieval name Charbon Blanc (literally translated white coal ) for leprosy . In fact, the community had a leprosy at that time .
