The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Bordeaux and is part of the canton of La Presqu'île . The inhabitants are called Montferrandais .

Saint-Louis-de-Montferrand is about 15 kilometers north of Bordeaux on the Garonne River . Saint-Louis-de-Montferrand is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Ambès in the north, Ambarès-et-Lagrave in the east, Bassens in the south, Blanquefort in the southwest, Parempuyre in the west and Ludon-Médoc in the northwest.
The A89 autoroute runs through the municipality .
