Jurgen Court

Jürgen Court (* 1961 ) is a German sports educator , sports philosopher , sports historian and university lecturer .

Life

Court studied at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) and graduated as a certified sports teacher.He also completed a teaching degree in the subjects of sport, philosophy and educational science at the University of Cologne , which he completed with the first state examination. In 1988 his doctoral thesis was accepted at the DSHS, in which he dealt with the theory of the education of Immanuel Kant  . Court worked as a research assistant at the pedagogical and philosophical seminars of the DSHS, in 1994 he submitted his habilitation there on ethics of sport and general ethics. He was awarded the license to teach sport philosophy. In 1998 he was appointed adjunct professor at the DSHS. In 1999, through an additional habilitation, the license to teach sports education was added. From April 2000, Court was initially a substitute professor at the Institute for Sports and Movement Sciences at the University of Erfurt and then professor for sports education and movement education.

Research and Teaching

Court's main research interests include the theory and practice of sports didactics, comparative theory of science and the history of sports, especially the history of sports science from 1900 to 1945. From a sports-historical perspective, he dealt with topics such as “personnel policy at the German University of Physical Exercise”, the origin of a theory of Physical education, a history of ideas in sports science from 1900 to 1914, classics and pioneers in sports science and sports science in the Weimar Republic and under National Socialism. In terms of sport philosophy, he dealt with aspects of sport ethics, the question “What is sport?”, Sport philosophy until 1945 and was co-author of the sport philosophy manual published by Herbert Haag in 1996 .

Court was a co-founder of the German Society for the History of Sports Science, chairman and editor of the society's yearbooks.
