Jürgen Damrau

Jürgen Damrau (born December 27, 1937 in Koblenz ) is a German law scholar and former university professor.

life and work

In 1957 Damrau began studying law at the University of Marburg after graduating from the Justus Liebig School in Darmstadt . In 1961 he passed his first state examination there. In 1963 he was one of Horst Bartholomeyczik supervised inheritance work from the University of Mainz Dr. iur. PhD. After his legal clerkship, Damrau also passed his second state examination in 1966 and subsequently worked as a judge at the Darmstadt Regional Court until 1977 . In 1974, parallel to his work in the judiciary, he completed his habilitation, supervised by Otto Mühl , and received the venia legendi for the subjects of civil law, civil procedural law, commercial law, international private law and recent German history of private law. In 1977 he became professor at the University of Konstanz , where he held a full chair in civil law until his retirement in 2001. Since his retirement, Damrau has been working as a freelance lawyer.

His main research focus was family and inheritance law. In addition, he gained fame in specialist circles through his comments in the Soergel .
