Jürgen Fischer (* July 22, 1923 ; † June 6, 1994 ) was a German science manager and long-time Secretary General of the West German Rectors' Conference .

After graduating from high school in 1941, Fischer was drafted into the labor service and then into the armed forces and was seriously wounded in 1943. After the end of the war, he studied history and philology in Göttingen , completed the oral doctoral examination in 1951 and then initially worked as a research assistant at Hermann Heimpel . At the same time he was involved in university politics, including from 1952 to 1955 as a dormitory officer in the Association of German Student Services . From 1954 to 1980 he was finally secretary and later general secretary of the West German Rectors' Conference (WRK). In this function, he was not only involved in the preparation of numerous fundamental decisions of the WRK and other scientific policy bodies, but was also active as an author and editor of various journals and initiated research projects on the history and reform of German higher education.

In 1980 Fischer resigned from office due to incapacity for work as a late consequence of his war wounds. He had been a member of the FDP since 1974, but did not hold any party political office.
