Jürgen Hartmann (political scientist)

Jürgen Hartmann (* 1946 ) is a German political scientist. By 2011, he was owner of the C4 - professorship for political science , particularly comparative Politics , at the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg .

Live and act

In 1976 Hartmann published his dissertation , which was supervised by Winfried Steffani at the University of Hamburg , The American President in the reference field of the congress groups . In 1982 he received his habilitation on Political Profiles of Western European Industrial Society .

At the end of 2011 he was retired .

Research areas and publications

His research specialty are analyzes in the political science area of society, especially comparative political science. In his academic career he has written a number of textbooks on this overarching topic. Most of his publications deal with international and governmental systems of various kinds, primarily in the western hemisphere.

In addition, he dealt intensively with the history of political science in a European-American comparison; his study is based on US standards. However, Wilhelm Bleek describes the shortening of the history of German political science to the period after 1945 as "problematic".
