Life

Jürgen Münch studied computer science with a minor in economics at the University of Kaiserslautern . After graduating in 1995 with a degree in computer science, he worked as a research assistant at the chair for software engineering at the University of Kaiserslautern. There he received his doctorate in 2001 with a thesis on the design of software projects. He then took over the leadership of the “Process Engineering and Technology” group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE) and became project manager in the Collaborative Research Center 501 at the University of Kaiserslautern.

In 2003 he became head of the "Process and Quality Engineering" department at Fraunhofer IESE and from 2007 to 2011 he headed the "Process Management" department. From 2006 to 2011 he was also head of the joint research laboratory of Daimler AG and Fraunhofer IESE.

From 2011 to 2015 he was Professor of Software Systems and from 2016 to 2017 Research Director at the University of Helsinki .

He is the author of more than 150 refereed specialist articles and widely used specialist books, including the work "Aligning Organizations Through Measurement" with questions about data-driven companies. In 2012 he brought a textbook for software development processes onto the market with the work “Software Process Definition and Management”. In 2020 the book "Software Startups - Essential Engineering and Business Aspects" was published. He is one of the authors of the strategic national research agenda “Need for Speed”, which describes the research priorities for the digital transformation of the economy.

He is one of the editors of the specialist journal e-Informatika.

He was awarded the IFIP TC2 Manfred Paul Prize for excellence in software theory and practice, seven best paper prizes, a thesis prize and the technology innovation prize sponsored by the Rhineland-Palatinate Lotto Foundation.
