Jürgen Rooste (born July 31, 1979 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ) is an avant-garde Estonian poet.

Life

Jürgen Rooste studied Estonian Philology at the Tallinn University of Education. This was followed by editorial activities of various kinds (also at a science publisher). He taught philosophy at the Tallinn Music School and Estonian Language and Literature at the Rocca-al-Mare School. In 1999 he received the Betti Alver debut prize. Since 2002 he has been an editor at the cultural magazine Sirp . In 2006 he was awarded the Poetry Prize of the Estonian Cultural Capital.

Rooste was the figurehead of the Tallinn group TNT - Tallinna Noored Tegijad (i.e. Tallinn Young Active). The titles of his volumes of poetry are based on those of Maria Under (1880–1980).

Works

Jürgen Rooste published nine volumes of poetry, four of them in collaboration with other authors. A selection of his poetry in German translation was published in 2003 in the quarterly magazine Lichtungen. Journal of Literature, Art and Criticism of Time ( ISSN  1012-4705 ). Issue 95 was devoted to literature from Tallinn (p. 134 and 135).
