Jürgen Schmidt (priest)

Jürgen Schmidt (born October 31, 1956 in Bochum ) is a German Roman Catholic priest , since 1998 papal honorary chaplain ( monsignor ). Since June 27, 2010 he has been the non-resident cathedral capitular of the Diocese of Essen.

Life

Jürgen Schmidt was after studying Catholic theology in 1983 by Bishop Franz Hengsbach for ordained priests . After serving as chaplain in St. Markus, Essen - Bredeney , and St. Elisabeth, Bochum -Gerthe, he was diocesan youth pastor from 1990 to 1996, then head of the Cardinal Hengsbach House. The St. Ludgerus seminary in Essen , which he headed as Regens from 2004 to 2012 , was located on Kalwes , a wooded hill in Bochum.

Since 1994 Schmidt was vicar at the Hohen Domkirche in Essen.

Since 1996 he has also been the episcopal commissioner for further training for priests.

In 1998, Pope John Paul II honored him by conferring the dignity of a Papal Honorary Chaplain .

Schmidt has been the non-resident cathedral chapter at the Hohen Domkirche in Essen since 2010.

As of January 1, 2013, Jürgen Schmidt will succeed Johannes Kronenberg as provost of the parish of St. Ludgerus in Essen-Werden .
