Jürgen Schröder (water polo player)

Jürgen Schröder (born December 16, 1960 in Hamm ) is a former German water polo player who won an Olympic bronze medal and became European champion in 1981.

Schröder played for SC Rote Erde Hamm , with whom he became German runner-up in 1979 and 1984. From 1981 he was part of the German national team, with which he won the title at the European Championship in 1981. At the 1982 World Cup in Guayaquil, the German team came third. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the German team was one of the favorites, and by winning the bronze medal behind the Yugoslavs and the American hosts, the team achieved the only Olympic medal win since 1945.

Jürgen Schröder was an attacking midfielder, he completed over 100 international matches for the Federal Republic of Germany.
