Jürgen Schwier

Jürgen Schwier (* 1959 in Unna ) is a German sports scientist .

Life

Difficult studied sport, geography and educational sciences at the Philipps University in Marburg , where he completed his doctoral thesis in educational sciences in 1990. In Marburg, then at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg and at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , he worked as a research assistant, assistant and senior assistant. From 1990 to 1992 he received a research grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG). In 1994, his habilitation  in sports science was accepted at the University of Oldenburg . The title of his habilitation thesis was "Play and Movement Careers for Visually Impaired Children and Adolescents".

From 1998 to 2009 Schwier held a professorship for sports science at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen with a focus on sports education and the social science basics of sports. From 1998 to 2000 he was the spokesman for the Sports Education Section of the German Association for Sports Science (DVS). Between 2001 and 2003 he was Vice Dean of the Department of Psychology and Sports Science at the University of Giessen. In 2009 he switched to a professorship for movement sciences at the European University of Flensburg and took over the management of the institute for movement sciences and sport. Between January 2013 and October 2018 he was Vice President for Studies and Teaching at the University of Flensburg.

Schwier's research work focuses on the subject areas of sports communication, school sports research, and movement and sports-related youth research.
