Jürgen Spieß (born March 27, 1949 in Dillenburg ) is a German ancient historian, author and director of the Institute for Faith and Science .

Life

Spieß studied history from 1968 to 1970 in Giessen and from 1970 to 1975 in Munich . Under Hermann Bengtson he was awarded Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1984 to 1999 Spieß was Secretary General of the Student Mission in Germany (SMD). In 1999 he founded the Institute for Faith and Science, which he headed until 2015.

In the course of time he published numerous works on the Christian faith and on the area of ​​tension between science and faith. Among other things, he translated works by the English author CS Lewis . He is a regular speaker at university days in Germany and abroad. Since 1990 he has been invited to lecture tours by Soviet and Russian universities on several occasions, with the University of Akademgorodok (Novosibirsk) playing a special role. The focus is on questions of the historical credibility of the Bible, the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the Christian faith.

Private

Spieß lost his wife and a child in a traffic accident. He and his second wife have a daughter with Down syndrome . Questions about the resurrection and medical ethics are therefore not only historically and scientifically relevant for him, but existentially.
