history
JD Irving Ltd. was founded in the small town of Bouctouche , New Brunswick in 1882 by the strictly Protestant industrialist James Dargavel Irving. He had several children, one of whom was Kenneth Colin Irving , who helped his father in the company as a child. After receiving the majority of his father's company, he took advantage of this and carried out several expansions between 1920 and 1940, primarily in the areas of raw material extraction and processing.
In the post-war years, the company took over the Pulp Mills in Saint John and New York and other factories in New Brunswick. In the 1950s, the company took over the Saint John shipyard, took up transport and logistics operations at the same time and opened up heavy industry (Irving Equipment) in order to strengthen the company in the market. Further takeovers followed between 1960 and 2000, both in Canada and in the neighboring United States, especially in the US state of Maine . JD Irving has been involved in offshore trading since the 1960s , e.g. B. in Bermuda . The group benefits from numerous tax exemptions and government subsidies , particularly in the energy sector.
