JET-PEG

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The JET-PEG (JPEG) is a form of tube used in enteral feeding of patients . The JET-PEG is placed on top of a gastric PEG: the JPEG is pushed into the middle of the small intestine as an intestinal access via the Y-attachment of the gastric PEG . This now two-lumen probe has one leg in the stomach and one in the small intestine.

The stomach can be relieved through the gastric thigh, tube feeding and medication can be administered through the intestinal supply line.

Surname

JPEG (English acronym : "Jejunal tube through PEG" ) means jejunal tube through PEG .

indication

The JPEG is used when there is a long-term need for tube feeding and the digestive tract above the jejunum cannot function. These include gastric emptying disorders due to a stenosis , which can lead to nausea and vomiting.

use

Since the jejunum has no storage function - in contrast to the stomach - the supply of food must be slow and continuous. The tube feed is fed in slowly, starting at 10 ml / h, over 20 hours up to a maximum of 150 ml per hour, which is why a feeding pump makes sense.

Accumulations of secretions are drained from the stomach via the gastric thigh to relieve it, so that nausea and vomiting are alleviated or prevented.

maintenance

The care corresponds to the supply of a gastric standard PEG ; with the difference that the JPEG can only be pushed back and forth for mobilization, but not rotated.
