The sports club, which was founded in 1915, was one of the largest mass sports organizations in Poland in the interwar period in its early years . The aim of its establishment was to enable the youth of Warsaw's Jewish minority , which made up around a quarter of the total population of the city, a broad sports education. In addition to organizing physical education, this also included youth outings, tournaments and courses for coaches. From 1922 Makabi Warsaw had its own gym and boxing hall, in which municipal championships were regularly held against local rivals such as Legia Warsaw . A separate athletics stadium, a rowing jetty and a swimming pool were added later. In 1932 the sports club had more than 2000 active athletes and had 23 departments.

After the attack by the German Wehrmacht on Poland in 1939, Makabi Warsaw had to cease its activities completely in 1940 at the latest. The German occupation organs had forbidden the country's Jewish population to engage in any association activities.

It was not until 2014 that the sports club was reactivated and today, in addition to a soccer team, it also offers sports such as yoga, climbing and fitness. In collaboration with the Museum of the History of Polish Jews Makabi Warsaw also organized Hebrew lessons .

Trivia
