JETS - Leben am Limit was a television series produced on behalf of ProSieben and broadcast between 1999 and 2001 about the training and deployment of fighter pilots in the German Air Force . It consists of 12 episodes, ten of which were broadcast for the first time in Germany on Tuesdays in the evening program in 1999 and the last two episodes only two years later in the morning program.

action

The pilots who are still in training, Frank Jäger, Robin Amberg, Philipp Klein and Ben Bremer, start their service with the German Air Force . From then on they fight against natural disasters, mercenaries, arms dealers and corrupt officers in their airplanes while they are still in their military training.

background

The series was shot in Fürstenfeldbruck and Memmingen as well as on air bases in Texas and Sardinia . The Bundeswehr provided logistical support for the filming of the series and, for a fee, contributed locations and technology, among other things. The Federal Ministry of Defense announced that it hoped this cooperation would have "an effect on the public".

The pilot reached 3.65 million viewers and a market share of 16.7 per cent in the target demographic for the first showing. After the ratings fell to below two million and below ten percent market share up to the tenth episode, the series was withdrawn from the program prematurely. The last two episodes were first broadcast as part of a repeat of the series in 2001 in the morning program.

criticism

The series received almost entirely negative reviews. The Berliner Zeitung attested to the main actor Elsholz that his acting potential was "still limited to raising an eyebrow". TV Spielfilm assessed that the series was "close to the pain limit". In retrospect ,quotemeter.de judged that it was a " top gun for the poor who experienced a rough crash landing".
