The JNR Class C51 ( jap. C51形 , C51-gata ), and 1928 class 18900 ( 18900形 , 18900-gata ), is a 2C1 - steam locomotive , built by the Japanese National Railways (JNR).
technology
The C classification denotes three sets of drive wheels . The C51 introduced 1.75 meters (5 ft 9 in ) driving wheels to Japan. The C51 series increased the average speed on the Tōkaidō main line from 47.3 km / h to 55.3 km / h. In 1930, a C51 towed the first tsubame (swallow) express, reducing travel time between Tokyo and Kobe to nine hours.
