Jaak Tamm (born February 25, 1950 in Tallinn , † January 4, 1999 ibid) was an Estonian politician.

Life

Jaak Tamm graduated from Tartu State University (TRÜ) in 1973 . From 1968 to 1975 he worked at the Laboratory for Sociology at the State University of Tartu. From 1975 to 1979, Tamm was employed as a research assistant at the Pedagogical Institute in the Estonian capital Tallinn. In 1979 he received his doctorate in psychology as a candidate for science . From 1979 to 1985, Tamm worked as a project manager at the business consultancy Mainor .

politics

Then Tamm went into politics. From 1985 to 1987 he was Minister of Construction of the Estonian SSR . From 1987 to 1990, Tamm was director of the Kodamu press group . From April 1990 to December 1991 he was Minister for Industry and Energy of the Republic of Estonia in the cabinet of Prime Minister Edgar Savisaar . Shortly after Estonian regained independence, Tamm founded the liberal Estonian coalition party ( Eesti Koonderakond ) together with others in December 1991 and became its first party chairman.

From 1992 to 1996, Tamm was the Lord Mayor of Tallinn. In 1998/99, Tamm was mayor of the city of Sillamäe in northeast Estonia until his untimely death at the age of 48 .
