Jaakko Suolahti (born January 18, 1918 in Kulosaari , Helsinki ; died January 28, 1987 in Helsinki) was a Finnish historian .

Suolahti was the son of the historian Gunnar Suolahti and his wife Ilta Emilia Bonsdorff. From 1955 to 1960 he was a lecturer at the University of Helsinki before becoming Professor of General History there. He held the professorship until 1981. During this time he succeeded Johan Henrik Zilliacus as director of the Institutum Romanum Finlandiae in Rome from 1962 to 1965 .

Although he was a professor of general history, his main research interests were in the social and cultural history of the Roman Empire .
