Jack Churchill
John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming Churchill (born September 16, 1906 in Ceylon , † March 8, 1996 in Surrey ) was a British officer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Life
His father was Alec Fleming Churchill (1876–1961). In 1926 he graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Berkshire and served in the Manchester Regiment in Burma .
He became known as the leader of commandos under the nicknames "Fighting Jack Churchill" and "Mad Jack" because he fought with sword and bagpipe and longbow in World War II .
He also gained fame through his motto " Any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed " ("Every officer who goes into battle without his sword is dressed inappropriately").
In 1936 he left the army and worked as a newspaper editor. Because of his talents with the bagpipes and archery , he was able to play small roles in the films The Thief of Baghdad and The Rascal from America .
