Jack Cohen (Entrepreneur)
Sir Jack Cohen (born October 6, 1898 in Whitechapel , London , † March 24, 1979 ) was a British entrepreneur .
Life
Cohen comes from a Jewish family. His parents were Polish immigrants from Łódź . Cohen founded the British retail company Tesco in 1919 . He developed the name Tesco in 1924 when he bought a large quantity of tea from TE Stockwell. He designed new labels for the tea, the name for which was composed of the initials of the supplier (TES) followed by the first two letters of his own surname (CO).
1969 Cohen was beaten to the Knight Bachelor . Cohen was married and had two daughters.
