John "Jack" Lawrence Cowan (born June 6, 1927 in Vancouver , Canada , † December 10, 2000 ) was a Canadian football player .

Career

Jack Cowan studied engineering in his native Vancouver at the University of British Columbia . After completing his studies, he worked as an electrical engineer for the Canadian energy company BC Hydro . Between 1949 and 1954 he played as a football player in Scotland for Dundee FC , and on his return to Canada for the Vancouver Halecos. In 1957 he was appointed to the squad of the Canadian national team for the qualifiers for the 1958 World Cup , but declined to play in the selection.

Cowan retired as a soccer player at the age of 29 to focus on his engineering career.

He died on December 10, 2000 at the age of 73. That same year he was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame .
