Jack Davies

Jack Davies (born November 25, 1913 in London , † June 22, 1994 in California ) was a British screenwriter and book writer.

Life

Davies started working for British International Pictures after finishing school . The first films based on his scripts were made from 1934/1935. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Air Force and wrote the scripts for training films. After the end of his service, he first worked as a film critic for the Sunday Graphic, but then turned back to screenwriting from 1948 on. He worked with director and screenwriter Ken Annakin on several projects .

Davies published several novels, some of which were also made into films. The action film Sprengkommando Atlantik (1979) is based on his book Esther, Ruth and Jennifer . Davies himself also wrote the script. After this production he retired in California.

The script for the film Doctor Ahoy! together with Nicholas Phipps earned him a nomination for the BAFTA Film Award .

In 1966, Davies and Ken Annakin were nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for The Daredevil Men in Their Flying Chests .

His son John Howard Davies (1939-2011) worked as an actor, film director and producer.

In total he was involved in more than 40 productions, mainly comedies.
