John R. "Jack" Miles (* 1942 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American theologian , biblical and literary scholar .

Life

In the 1960s and 1970s, Jack Miles attended several Jesuit seminars at the Xavier University of Cincinnati , the Pontifical Gregorian University, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem before earning a PhD in Middle Eastern Languages ​​and Literature from Harvard University in 1971 . He then worked for several years as a journalist and editor, including at Doubleday , The Los Angeles Times and the Times . He currently teaches at the University of California, Irvine .

Miles is the author of two biblical books with God: A Biography and Christ: A Crisis in the Life of God , each translated into several languages. For the former, he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Best Biography in 1996.
