Jack de Vries (musician)

Jack de Vries (born August 24, 1906 in Amsterdam , † December 28, 1976 in Antwerp ) was a Dutch jazz trombonist .

Act

Jack de Vries, the brother of Louis de Vries and Clara de Vries , came from the bass and sousaphone to the trombone. He attended the music school in Rotterdam and joined the Original Ramblers in 1926 . In 1927 he was in Berlin with his brother and in 1928 with Kai Ewans in Belgium and France. In 1929 he was with the Savoy Orpheans , in 1930 he played with Carlo Minari and the Tuschinsky Theater Orchestra and in 1931 again with the Ramblers . In 1932 he formed his own band with violinist Mitchell Novomiast ( Jack and Mitchell's International Band ). At the end of the year it was renamed the Jack and Louis International Band after his brother Louis joined . His sister Clara, also a trumpeter, played in the band from time to time. In 1934 the Internationals toured Belgium and Switzerland and became very well known (appearances with Ella Logan , Nat Gonella , Valaida Snow , George Johnson (* 1913) and recordings in 1933 for Kristall, 1934 for Cinetone and 1937 for Rhythme) until the war in 1939 ushered in the end of the band. Jack de Vries made a new attempt with the band after the war in 1945, but it was dissolved in 1949.
