Jackie "Kid" Berg (born June 28, 1909 in London as Judah Bergman , † April 22, 1991 ibid) was a British boxer.

Professional career

The Jew Berg turned professional in the East End of London at the age of fourteen and, as a typical pressure fighter, quickly earned a reputation as a crowd favorite with spectacular non-stop attack boxes (“Whitechapel Whirlwind”).

From 1928 he boxed mainly in the USA. He drew against Billy Petrolle , and was knocked out for the first time in the rematch. The following year he beat the light welterweight champion Mushy Callahan in a non-title fight.

In January 1930 he also won against Tony Canzoneri and then got a title fight against Callahan, which he won on February 18, 1930 by technical knockout in the tenth round. He defended the title six times, but his most famous fight was his victory in a non-title fight against the, albeit much smaller, Cuban Kid Chocolate, who was unbeaten in 160 amateur and professional fights .

In 1931 he was defeated by Canzoneri in the rematch by knockout and also lost the third encounter. He beat Kid Chocolate again just on points in 1932, but was otherwise never able to build on his great times, even if he continued to box until 1945. The Ring Magazine keeps him despite his very short heyday for the fifth-best Halbweltergewichtler all time.

After boxing

After his active career, Berg was active in a variety of ways: he was with the Royal Air Force , owned a restaurant in London and worked as a stuntman and small actor for the film - he had already played two guest roles in 1933.
