Jackie Kallen (* 1952 in Detroit ) is one of the first and most successful female boxing managers in sports history. Hence her nickname: " The First Lady of Boxing ". The American's life was filmed in The Promoter .

Life

She began her career in the 1970s as a journalist in show business. She interviewed the Rolling Stones , Frank Sinatra , Elvis Presley, among others . During an interview with boxer Thomas Hearns, she discovered her passion for sports and became a sports reporter.

She began to work with Hearns as a publicist, but also experienced exclusion from the boxing world, which was still dominated by men at the time. There was practically no female boxing.

Nevertheless, Kallen managed to get started as boxing manager for James Toney , Bronco McKart and other boxers. Toney became their first world champion in 1991 when he won the WBA title in a middleweight fight . McKart was also world champion in 1994 according to the WBO version .

As a woman in the male domain of boxing, she was always in the media spotlight, which she could use skillfully.

Kallen was diagnosed with both heart disease and cancer in the late 1990s. After three operations, she is now back in good health. Today Kallen lives in Los Angeles as the manager of McKart and other boxers.
