Life

Jacob van Lennep was the son of David Jacob van Lennep , of the Van Lennep family. He studied law after visiting the Amsterdam Athenaeum in Leiden . He was Reich's advocate and a conservative member of the Second Chamber . He began his writing career with romantic poetry in the footsteps of Walter Scott . He tried to create a Dutch counterpart to his work in broad historical novels . His fluid style and his skilfully laid out storylines show his great narrative talent, but his texts lack the consistent elaboration of psychological depths. In addition to novels, van Lennep also wrote dramas, burlesques, novels and poems.
