Jacopo Ligozzi (* 1547 in Verona , † 1627 in Florence ) was an Italian painter .

Life

Jacopo Ligozzi came from a family of artists. His father was the painter Giovanni Ermanno Ligozzi . Jacopo received his training in the workshop of his father, who had entered the service of the Trento prince-bishop Cristoforo Madruzzo in 1557 . His first works were for clients from the region: in 1567 he and his father signed an altarpiece for the New Year's Eve church in Vigo Lomaso , and in 1556 he had already completed an altarpiece for the church of San Antonio Abate in Bivedo . In 1577 (or 1578) he followed the call of Francesco I de 'Medici , the Grand Duke of Tuscany, to Florence . He first made a name for himself primarily through his lifelike pictures.
