Bartolomeo Bimbi
Bartolomeo Bimbi (* 1648 in Settignano , Florence ; † 1729 there ) was a Florentine painter who specialized in still lifes .
Career
Bartolomeo Bimbi studied in Rome , and one of his teachers was Lorenzo Lippi . In his early years he also painted historical pictures, but later devoted himself entirely to painting still lifes, especially pictures of flowers and fruits. So he created “around 1700 for northern Italian country estates paintings with numerous varieties of tree fruits (...), e. B. a representation with 34 types of lemon alone. ”He painted and documented his pictures with scientific accuracy. Bimbi mainly worked for the Medici , his main client was Cosimo III. who had a soft spot for botany .
From May 11 to July 20, 2008 there was a solo exhibition at the Villa Medicea in Poggio a Caiano (title: Stravaganti e bizzarri. Ortaggi e frutti dipinti da Bartolomeo Bimbi per i Medici ).
