Jacqueline Fernandez (born August 11, 1985 ) is a Sri Lankan actress and model . She is the winner of the Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2006 election . Fernandez is known for her work in Hindi films . She made her acting debut in 2009 with the film Aladin . On the side, she's also a social activist and promotes brands.

Life

Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Bahrain . Her father is from Sri Lanka and her mother from Canada and Malaysia . Fernandez grew up in both Bahrain and Sri Lanka. Her great grandparents were originally from Goa , India . She has a sister and two brothers and grew up in Bahrain. Fernandez wanted to become an actress as a child, later a television reporter, and began hosting TV shows in Bahrain when she was 14.

After studying mass communication in Australia , she moved to Sri Lanka, where she lived with her grandparents, and worked for a television station there . From then on she began to report and investigate the political turmoil.

She accepted offers as a model and was crowned Miss Sri Lanka Universe in 2006. She represented Sri Lanka in the Miss Universe 2006 elections in Los Angeles , but without reaching a placement.

In 2007 Fernandez first appeared in a commercial music video for the Sri Lankan duo Bathiya and Santhush .
