Jacques Bourgoing

Jacques Bourgoing (March 18, 1543 , † in the 16th century) was a French Romance scholar and etymologist .

life and work

The Bourgoing family came from the Nivernais . Jacques Bourgoing was a senior official in the financial administration (cour des aides) and Mr von Poissons , Haute-Marne department . He came out with an early etymological dictionary , which, however, has remained torso (100 articles from ahaner to alum ). Furthermore, one knows from him the plan of a knight academy working in French (instead of Latin) .

Jacques Bourgoing was the father of the oratorian general François Bourgoing (1585–1662).
