Jacques Cachemire

Jacques Cachemire (born February 27, 1947 in Pointe-à-Pitre ) is a French former basketball player .

career

The 1.97 meter long winger, also known in basketball circles by the nickname Cachou , played in France's top division for SA Lyon (1968/69), Antibes (1969 to 1979) and ASPO Tours (1979 to 1984). With Antibes he became French champion in 1970 and with Tours in 1980. In the 1974/75 season, Cachemire scored 29.1 points per game, making it the best in the league this year. With 14 955 points he was in the eternal basket hunter list of the French league at the end of his career in second place.

From 1969 to 1983 Cachemire played 250 international matches. This record was later surpassed by Hervé Dubuisson (259 internationals). He participated in the European Championships in 1971, 1973, 1977, 1979, 1981 and 1983. At the European Championship in 1973, the Frenchman was fourth on the basketball list with 17.7 points per match.

He worked as a coach for ASPO Tours (1983/84, player-coach), Lourdes (1992) and RCM Toulouse (1993/94).

In October 2012, a street was named after Jacques Cachemire in his hometown of Pointe-à-Pitre on Guadeloupe .
