Jacques François Édouard Hervieux
Jacques François Édouard Hervieux (born September 3, 1818 in Louviers , France , † March 31, 1905 ) was a French medic .
Life
Jacques Hervieux was born on September 3, 1818 in the Louviers, France. He went through high school in Rouen , which he graduated in 1838. After moving to Paris , he received the title of Bachelor of Science there in 1841. He then studied at the medical school. In 1847 he defended his dissertation to obtain a medical doctorate. It was entitled De l'Ictère des Nouveau-nés (German translation: From the neonatal icterus | jaundice of the newborn ). In it he summarized his systematic observations on numerous children. Some of his findings on the frequency and course of neonatal jaundice are still relevant today. During the rest of his life, Hervieux published numerous other papers on various obstetric and neonatal topics. He retired from clinical work as the head of a maternity hospital at the age of 65. Five years later he was appointed director of the immunization service anyway. In 1892 he was awarded the Rosette of the Legion of Honor and in 1896 with the presidency of the Medical Academy. Hervieux died on March 31, 1905 at the age of 86.
