Jacques Richard (director)
Jacques Richard (born March 31, 1954 in Angers ) is a French film director, screenwriter, producer and actor.
Life
Richard came to film at the age of 19, first as assistant to Henri Langlois in the Cinémathèque française , later as an intern with Benoît Jacquot while filming L'assassin musicien (1976). Richards first directed feature films at Né in 1975 .
In 1977 he founded his own film production company Les Films Élémentaires . Films like Le rouge de chine (1977) and Rebelote (1982) followed. Since then, Richard has worked as a director of feature films and short films for cinema and television. If Rebelote with Jean-Pierre Léaud } was a silent film, his television film Porté disparu with Georges Claisse and Claude Jade is also an experiment: different versions were shot and the television viewers were allowed to have a say in the further course of the plot. His films also include the 3.5-hour documentary Le fantôme d'Henri Langlois about his former teacher, which was nominated for the Gold Hugo for Best Documentary at the Chicago International Film Festival .
Richard is the uncle of the actor Melvil Poupaud and the composer Yarol Poupaud .
