Jaiyah "Johnny" Saelua (born July 19, 1988 ) is a soccer player who competes for the American-Samoan men's national soccer team .
The biologically male born defender who lives as a woman is the first Fa'afafine to represent her country in football. She is the first openly transgender person to ever take part in an international soccer match. Saelua played in the historic 2-1 win against the Tonga national team , the first ever victory for the American-Samoan men's national team.
Saelua is studying art at the University of Hawaii . In the British soccer documentary Next Goal Wins - The game of her life , which was published in 2014, she can be seen alongside her teammate and coach Thomas Rongen.
