Yakiw Mychajlowytsch Chammo ( Ukrainian Яків Михайлович Хаммо ; born June 11, 1994 in Artemiwsk , Donetsk Oblast ) is a Ukrainian judoka . In 2015 he was third in the heavyweight division in the world championships and European championships.

Career

The 1.88 m tall Jakiw Chammo was third in the 2013 European Junior Championships. In 2014 he won the Junior European Championships and won a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships. In 2015 the European Championships were held as part of the European Games 2015 in Baku. Chammo lost to the Russian Renat Saidow in the quarterfinals , with victories in the hoping round against the Dutchman Roy Meyer and the Lithuanian Marius Paškevičius, Chammo won a bronze medal. Two months later at the World Championships in Astana, he lost in the quarterfinals to the Japanese Ryu Shichinohe . In the hope round he defeated the German Sven Heinle and the South Korean Kim Sung-min and also received a bronze medal here. in November he reached the final at the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi and was defeated by Kim Sung-min. In 2016, Chammo won the Grand Prix tournament in Düsseldorf and the Grand Slam tournament in Baku . At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he was eliminated in his second fight against the Kyrgyz Juri Krakowezki . At the end of 2016, Chammo won the title at the U23 European Championships.

At the 2017 European Championships in Warsaw, Chammo took seventh place. At the 2017 World Championships in Budapest he was eliminated in his opening match against the Austrian Daniel Allerstorfer . In October 2017 he won the Ukrainian championships. In 2018 Chammo only played a few tournaments, at the World Championships in Baku he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Georgian Guram Tuschishvili . Also in the round of 16 he was defeated by Maciej Sarnacki from Poland at the 2019 European Championships held in Minsk as part of the 2019 European Games . At the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi, Chammo reached a final in a Grand Slam tournament in October 2019 after three and a half years, in Abu Dhabi he was defeated by Roy Meyer.
