Jakob ben Isaak Aschkenasi from Janow (* 1550 in Janów ; † around 1620) was a rabbi and Yiddish writer from Janów near Lublin .

Life

His work Ze'enah u-Re'enah (also: Zenne-we-Renne , Zeena u-reena , Tsena u-R'ena etc., German: “You go out and look” , published in 1616, attributed to ancient Yiddish literature) “Come and see”, according to Hld 3,11) is a popular, very popular midrash paraphrase of the Pentateuch .

The book had over 200 editions and was also known as the “Women's Bible”. The author wanted to make independent of preachers and Bible experts, as the foreword and also the title of his second work show: Sefer ha-Maggid ("The Book of the Preacher"), in which he treats prophets and hagiographs in a similar way and with a paraphrase of Rashi - Commentary.
