Jakob Freiburghaus

Jakob Freiburghaus (born April 14, 1854 in Spengelried near Mühleberg ; † August 17, 1927 there ) was a Swiss politician and farmer.

Life

Jakob Freiburghaus grew up as the son of a farmer. He attended secondary school in Laupen and then undertook a stay in Switzerland.

He was married to Anna Herren, daughter of Christian Herren.

In 1880 he took over the farm of his father Christian Freiburghaus.

Community politics

Jakob Freiburghaus became mayor of Mühleberg in 1888 and was a member of the Federal Assembly's agricultural club.

He was the initiator and president of the Bern-Neuchâtel railway from 1897–1920 . From 1894 to 1927 he was President of the Economic and Charitable Society of the Canton of Bern OGG , and from 1897 on the board of the Swiss Farmers' Association and the Swiss Agricultural Association.

In the military he was a lieutenant colonel. The Seeländer embodied the old farming-political tradition of the canton of Bern, first with Freinn, from 1919 with the BGB . As an advocate of agricultural interests, he campaigned in the National Council for the protective tariff of 1903, for the promotion of domestic grain cultivation by the federal government (purchase obligation, price guarantee) and the safeguarding of the country's bread supply.
