Jakob Maier

Jakob Maier (born March 5, 1854 in Gießhof ( Miesbach ), † February 14, 1929 in Oberhöger (Miesbach)) was a German painter , photographer and farmer.

The farmer's son Jakob Maier showed his artistic talent early on, which was encouraged by his drawing teacher Alois Dirnberger . With his help and that of the local summer visitor Angelo Graf von Courten , he was able to study in Munich at the Art Academy under Franz von Defregger in 1878 . After graduating, he first worked as a painter and photographer in Munich . He was also artistically active in the Miesbacher Land and created numerous portraits and frescoes. He was also active as a genre and landscape painter. He remained committed to the style of his teacher Defregger. He was also friends with the painter Fritz Freund and the artists of the Courten family. As early as 1887 he withdrew to his home country and devoted himself full-time to agriculture, but was still artistically active.
