Fritz Freund (born April 13, 1859 in Darmstadt , † October 19, 1936 in Miesbach ) was a German painter .

Fritz Freund, son of bank director Hugo Freund (1833–1903), grew up in Munich from 1871 after his father took over the management of the Süddeutsche Bodenkreditbank here. From November 1871 he attended the Maximiliansgymnasium in Munich and successfully passed the Abitur examination there in 1877. He first studied law and then, from 1879 to 1889, attended the Munich Art Academy under Gabriel von Hackl , Nicolaus Gysis and Wilhelm von Lindenschmitt . He was a member of the Munich Artists' Cooperative , but later exhibited with Gruppe 48 as well. Initially shaped by realism , Freund soon approached impressionism . He found motifs primarily in the Miesbach area. After his family had spent their summer retreat here at an early age, Freund had his first residence here since June 1919 in a country house built by his father in 1900 on the upper Tölzer Berg . In the Evangelical Apostle Church in Miesbach there is still the altarpiece of Christ on Golgotha from his hand.
